So… we’ve finally opened! After what feels like a lifetime of planning, delays, dust, and decision fatigue (how many shades of paint is too many?), Domain is now a real, functioning thing. Guests are checking in, the beds are comfy, the showers work, and the feedback is fantastic — which is still sinking in.
We opened quietly a couple of weeks ago. No big announcement, no launch party. Just a set of smart locks, some slightly nervous button-pressing behind the scenes… and it worked.
A few things we’ve learned already
The feedback’s been lovely — better than we expected, to be honest. We’ve had a couple of full houses, and the vibe from guests, Lancastrians and the local press has been really warm. It means a lot. It’s early days and there are still a few kinks to iron out — tech stuff, finishing touches, snags and some faffing with breakfast logistics — but overall, we’re feeling quietly proud.
It took longer than we thought
That’s probably not a surprise. Working with a 300 year old listed Georgian building always comes with some unknowns — mostly in the form of things behind walls that shouldn’t be there. But we kept going, pulled in brilliant local makers, and tried to make every design decision count.
Now, there are seven rooms that each feel different but part of a whole. It’s not a big place, but that’s the point. Small-scale, independent, designed with care — and no reception desk (time is the biggest luxury after all right? We’re saving guests time by cutting out the admin).
Onwards
We’ve got more to come — more content, more partnerships, more small improvements. But we’re open. It’s real. And we’re loving the early buzz.
This is day one. The beginning.
Can’t wait to grow Domain.
